Dear Readers, 

We want to inform you that BBR has discontinued its original content. The one exception is "Bruin Recruiting Prep News Round-up" which we will continue to publish every Monday. A news feed for Bruin news and recruiting articles has been added to the site. 

It was a difficult decision, unfortunately our situation no longer allows us to devote the necessary time to write the type of article that we've been accustomed to publishing over the years. 

"Bruin Basketball Report", BBR, began appearing during the 2005-06 basketball season. Since then we've had the good fortune of covering three consecutive UCLA 30-win seasons and Final Fours. 

We have written over 125 game previews and summaries, published 150 consecutive Bruin Recruiting Prep News Round-Ups, and a multitude of other original Bruin basketball articles including former player interviews. 

Thanks to all the loyal BBR readers who have visited this site over the years. In total you have visited this site nearly 4 million times to make this one of the most popular UCLA Bruin basketball websites. 

We also want to thank the UCLA Athletic department, current players and coaches, and former Bruins players, for their support and contributions to the BBR site. 

Its been an enjoyable and rewarding experience. Go Bruins!

Bruin Recruiting: Prep News Roundup (12/15)

The Crusaders missed All-American candidate Reeves Nelson in the frontcourt, but it was the backcourt play of Sacramento’s threesome of Josiah Turner, Travon Abraham and Chase Tapley that proved to be the difference in the game.
Nelson, a 6-foot-6 power forward, was in street clothes on the bench after suffering an injury during football season. Nelson was a pre-season All-American by the Sporting News and is headed to UCLA next season. Max Preps 12/12

Lake Oswego used a 12-point advantage in the second quarter as a springboard to a 68-63 high school boys basketball victory over host Grant on Friday night....Grant of Northeast Portland got 30 points from Mike Moser, a 6-foot-8 senior who has signed with UCLA. Oregonian 12/12

Recruits

Trey Zeigler, 6-5, jr., Mt. Pleasant: Zeigler is a point guard who will also play the post at times. Last season, despite suffering a broken (left) wrist, he averaged 17.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists. "He's made strides to play stronger," coach Sam Taylor said. Zeigler added 10 pounds from last season and now is up to 195. Taylor said Zeigler has not received any scholarship offers but Michigan and Michigan State are leading a list that includes Pitt, Notre Dame, Louisville and Louisiana State. Detroit News 12/8

Joshua Smith, a 6-foot-9 junior, put together 19 points and 15 rebounds in front of a high-energy crowd that included Washington men's basketball coach Lorenzo Romar and Louisville assistant Walter McCarty. Tyler tossed in seven three-pointers en route to a team-high 22 points. They combined for 16 of Kentwood's 18 first-quarter points, including three big jams for Smith. "We did a poor job of sandwiching Josh front and back," Federal Way coach Jerome Collins said. Seattle Times 12/8

Harrison Barnes, a small forward with five stars behind his name, has been courted by teams from North Carolina to UCLA. He holds nearly two dozen scholarship offers, in large part because he chooses to focus on his high school and AAU careers rather than narrowing his college choices. Go Cyclones 12/12

Led by hot-shooting forward Damien Leonard, J. L. Mann went on a 24-8 run over the last six minutes of the game to defeat Hillcrest 89-75 in a charged atmosphere at the Mann gym. Leonard and Hillcrest's Savad Garner paced their teams with strong offensive performances. Leonard primarily hitting threes and free throws knocked down 38 points. Greenville News 12/13

Trey Zeigler and his father, Central Michigan coach Ernie Zeigler , attended the game and sat five rows behind the MSU bench. Trey is considered by Rivals.com a four-star recruit and one of the top 75 players nationally among class of 2010 prospects. The 6-foot-5 guard attends Mount Pleasant and also reportedly has interest in Michigan, UCLA and his father's program. Detroit News 12/13
