BBR News

Dear Readers,

We want to inform you that BBR has discontinued its original content. The one exception is "Bruin Recruiting Prep News Round-up" which we will continue to publish every Monday. A news feed for Bruin news and recruiting articles has been added to the site.

It was a difficult decision, unfortunately our situation no longer allows us to devote the necessary time to write the type of article that we've been accustomed to publishing over the years.

"Bruin Basketball Report", BBR, began appearing during the 2005-06 basketball season. Since then we've had the good fortune of covering three consecutive UCLA 30-win seasons and Final Fours.

We have written over 125 game previews and summaries, published 150 consecutive Bruin Recruiting Prep News Round-Ups, and a multitude of other original Bruin basketball articles including former player interviews.

Thanks to all the loyal BBR readers who have visited this site over the years. In total you have visited this site nearly 4 million times to make this one of the most popular UCLA Bruin basketball websites.

We also want to thank the UCLA Athletic department, current players and coaches, and former Bruins players, for their support and contributions to the BBR site.

Its been an enjoyable and rewarding experience. Go Bruins!

Sincerely,

BBR

This is sad news.
BBR is by far the top source for information regarding the Bruins.
Hate to see the site end.
Thanks for your work.

Man, this was part of my daily routine!
As an Alum and long time supporter, I checked this site daily. In order to get the same info I'll have to visit 3 or 4 sites to get my fix. Good Luck and thanks for all the great info!

I'm also sad to read this news. If anybody can suggest an alternative site I'd appreciate it. Hopefully the BBR community will all move to the same place.
Thanks for all your hard work BBR, very appreciated!

A great site where I get all my UCLA sports news is with Brian Dohn at the daily news. He follows UCLA sports around and is very extensive and has many inside sources.
www.insidesocal.com/ucla
I also like Bruinsnation which is linked from this site on the left hand column. But I would highly recommend Brian Dohn at the Daily News.

I also highly recommend Brian Dohn over at the Daily News. He always has the most up to date news and he's usually always the first to post any breaking news in our sports world. He mostly writes on Football and Basketball news but he will add in any pertinent news from our other sports. He is really the best source of information and I know Bruins Nation gets their information from him also.

BBR and Mr. Wong, you guys are the BEST! I think all of us are saddened by this ending but you have really done so much to keep all us Bruin brother and sisters in the loop on all the Westwood Round Ball activity. You will be GREATLY missed!

BBR, I am saddened. A piece of my heart fell to the floor. This is sad news. It's like losing a loved one. I mean, I checked this site 3 times a day. I posted a comment on every article (sometimes after drinking).
We are Bruin Nation! There has to be one good writer to step up. If the UCLA basketball players do it, one writer in this land called L.A can do it.
Man, I can't beleive this is happening...I hope this is a bad nightmare...
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the content.
To all the Bruin Fans out there, I would like to raise our glasses and salute BBR for his stellar dead-on Kevin Love back scratch stories....That was the best!!!
Cheers for making the world a better place...can u send me your personal email??? Pitcher on me....

K S Wong(BBR) you rock! Your Bruins hoops coverage was tremendous! I'm very sad to here this news. I checked this site 2-3 times a day from the early days till now. Can you perhaps endorse someone that can keep BBR original content going? Glad to hear the Bruin prep recruiting news will continue. Best of luck to you in the future. Thanks so much. We love ya man!

Let me add my thanks to KS Wong and BBR - it has by far been the best site ever, succeeding and surpassing those by Michael Miller, Jim Downs, and most recently Jeremy's (forgot his last name) blog for Bruin Basketball news. It helps me up here in Aptos (near Santa Cruz) keep in touch with my Bruins, having seen 95% of the home games in person from 1959 when I entered UCLA through 1997, when we moved out of LA.
Mr. Wong, in addition to your completeness in finding and listing information about Bruin games, players, and coaches, I always found your journalism and game and player evaluations complete, fair, and very accurate.
I'm glad you will not leave us completely, and still provide once weekly recruiting news. I would also like to support any efforts by someone else to take over the helm, be it "BBR" or under some other name. I would also be willing to contribute to it being a pay site if Mr. Wong or someone with equal talents is able to restart it or keep it going.
Again, thank you Mr. Wong, for all the time and effort and hard work you have put into it. As an old retired guy, I know that, as much as some of us might refuse to admit it, there are really more important things in life than Bruin hoops, and wish you all the best in all your future endeavors. From your writing and responses to to others, I know you will be a success at whatever is in your future (and we, at least for now ) can still enjoy your reports once a week.

Not sure what profession you are (or are going into) in, but journalism is certainly a natural for you!
We'll miss you but I wish you the BEST!

this really really sucks!!! bruins nation referenced above is run by a group of fascist radicals that cannot stand to have their opinions ever questioned and brian dohn is no friend to ucla. you ALWAYS kept the right balance of fan, reporting and sanity without letting your ego get in the way of your writing. thanks to you but please . . . reconsider!!!

First time I agree with george. He is spot on! This sight kept the perfect balance of reporting and the comments section was always respectfully run. Dohn posts lots of info, but he is definetly NO friend of UCLA (I find it very odd that the LA Times cannot find a UCLA alumni to cover the UCLA sporting news... you mean to tell me there is not ONE qualified UCLA person to fill this role???). To top it off, Dohn definetly has an ego larger than the size of u$c's swollen football head. Bruins Nation, while passionate - attacks any opinions that are NOT in agreement with them and posts very ONE sided articles, comments. I stopped posting on their site long ago.
Please please please reconsider!!!! What will it take? What is the problem to continue - bandwidth, money, time??? what??? WHAT CAN WE DO TO HELP???

Now i'd be stupid about Bruins' opponents. Every morning i goto Drudge (for news), Yahoo (for scores and financials), the BBR for BBB. Before game day, i print out the other team's roster from BBR. How about Recruiting News AND Game Preview?

This site was the ONLY site for Bruin B-Ball in my opinion.
Thanks for everything! Good luck in all your future endeavors!

I agree with NYLUD, how about game previews? That really is your niche. Insightful, fair, and knowledgable.
How about reconsidering and making this your full time job by making it a pay sight? I would think you could create a minimum of 100K if you update this site as often as you do now and closer to 7 figures if you took it on full time and covered football as well.

I already felt the loss the next morning. I automoatically check this site three times a day.
To compound things, as a season ticket holder, I showed up to watch my Bruins and had to ask a neighbor, "Where is Josh Shipp?" It was embarrassing.
You are and will always be THE MAN!!
Please RECONSIDER...
Cheers Bruin Nation

To all,
Thanks for the kind comments and messages.
As we said above, we'd like to continue the original content but unfortunately we just don't have the time to do the level of reporting we're accustomed.
Its not a financial issue either, we've always provided the content free to fans as supporters of Bruin basketball and never for anything else.
At least we still have the weekly recruiting updates, we hope the community can stay together through these postings.
- BBR
