What happened to this site? I have looked at this site every week since freshman year. WIsh it would come back to life. This site always had the best info on games, recruits, etc.
Common! Where's the good recruiting gossip this website used to provide? Need the full scoop as the only thing to look forward to this year is the next.
Is it me or is J.Smith a big fat slob? There is no way he should be as fat as he is and in poor shape too. I think Lamb is going to be a good one. Anderson is at best a intramural player. I'm not sure about the twins, but they might be players at some point. Nelson is the one player that could be the leader, but he needs to be a little more selfish with the ball.
Yo. What up wit dis website? Used to be da bomb, now dis only is a dud (much like the football head coach search and the men's basketball team). KAPOW!
Heard Ben Howland is being let go at UCLA. Annoucement is pending discussions with the AD and President. Word is that Mark Few will take over at the end of year. Pending.
Doubtful, now that Nelson is gone we can get on with the season. Word to Howland....stay away from those NoCal recruits....Nelson, Gordon, that kid that just got terminated by Arizona....stick to SoCal boys, you know, the ones that got you to 3 Final Fours.
I hope you guys are right about howland i have never in 40 yrs seen such a bad UCLA team,am i missing something ? when i see josh smith play i see a slow weak player, not the guy people on tv talk about.
Tattoos don't make you tougher...hitting the gym and practice court does Lamb!...Nelson! These two chumps should be killing it now instead, one is soft and the other is a stoner.
I have a blog that I started that deals primarily with UCLA athletics (a little nba, nfl, mlb and nhl content thrown in now and then as well). I'd love it if you guys checked it out, and if BBR was willing to toss a link to my blog on his site I'd reciprocate.
Please feel free to comment. I approve all of them, and am always looking to learn new things about the Bruins, my writing style and ways I can improve as a blogger.
Howland's got to go. Refusing to play zone for the past 3 or 4 years and then conceding, but not using it when it's working, and then using it, but not knowing how to play it... this is ridiculous. Time to find a new coach.
Hey, another road loss and 8th in a row to Washington AT Washington. WHAT? Yes, you read that correctly - 8th LOSS in a ROW AT WASHINGTON. How is that even possible. WE SUCK. HOWLAND MUST GO. UCLA is no longer considered elite and the program is going down the toliet. Fire Howland. Fire Dan. Let's get the ship turned around ASAP.
Shabazz Muhammad and Tony Parker recruiting update from Scout.com: "Shabazz Muhammad and Tony Parker have recently indicated they are coming to UCLA, according to sources.
Muhammad, the 6-5 small forward from Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman, is the #1-ranked player in the country, according to Scout.com. Parker, the 6-8, 255-pound post from Lithonia (Georgia) Miller Grove, is the nation's #19-ranked player.
Neither Muhammad nor Parker signed National Letters of Intent during the early signing period in November, choosing to wait until April for the late signing period.
It's long been thought by some close to his recruiting situation that Muhammad was leaning to UCLA. In the last few months other sources have indicated that Kentucky was making a very serious run for him, and that he still was seriously considering Duke. Good sources, however, have told us recently that Muhammad has strongly indicated to UCLA that he will be a Bruin.
Perhaps the bigger news is that of Parker indicating he, also, will be coming to UCLA. There have been rumors that Parker was leaning to Ohio State or Duke at times, and Kansas and Kentucky have tried to get in on his recruitment.
Key to all of this is Kyle Anderson, the 6-8 point forward from Jersey City (New Jersey) St. Anthony. Anderson, the #3-ranked player in the nation, signed an NLI for UCLA in November. He is close to both Muhammad and Parker, and it was long thought that his commitment to UCLA was a very strong indication that Muhammad intended to be a Bruin also. We've heard that Anderson has been critical in the recruitment of Parker, selling him on the three of them coming to UCLA together.
Muhammad and Parker will sign NLIs in April and, of course, there's a long time between now and then. But barring unforeseen circumstances, the intention of Muhammad and Parker right now is to sign with UCLA."
anonyoums that is good news too here it is about time we get the best players in the country to ucla all the other programs like duke an kentucky an all the rest seem to get the best players year after year an we seem to fall behind that should not happen not at ucla
UCLA needs to turn the corner and ASAP! We cannot afford any more embarassing losses. This will only hurt what little reputation is remaining and scare recruits away. Calipari is a turd, but seriously... year in and year out his teams produce EVEN with such young talent. Say what you will about him and his cheatin' ways (only coach to have had 2 Final Four teams disaplined for cheatin' - yet in the end, there really is no punishment) that dude can flat out coach.
Hello I'm a die hard Bruin Fan. I have a couple of comments about the Bruins Basketball Teams trip up to the State of Washington, and I'd Love to see if there are others that agree. First of All The Bruins should have one the game at UOW. I felt that the Officiating was absolutely terrible and one sided to help the Huskies get back in the Game and eventually take the lead. That aside I felt there was a poor coaching decision as well as a poor non decision by coach Howland, whom I feel should have in case he didnt, take responsibility for the loss. The first thing was that Coach Howland took one of His totally unorthodoxed Time outs after a second consecutive made 3-pointer by Lazarus Jones. He I know would say and try to justify he did it to set up the defense. The Bruins were trying to weather the Huskies Run and were kind of doing it when Jones hit the Second of the 2 3's. Most likely the Huskies would have called time out on their own saving Howland and the Bruins a Time Out. I feel that by Howland calling His Time Out, out of pure tradition rather than with thoughtful calculated for the moment thinking, he actually was helping Washington to gather themselves for an offensive series that if unsucessful would have left the Bruins in pretty good shape and the Ball and a guy Lazarus on fire. But instead Howland wound up Icing his own kicker so to speak. The final thing and I might be wrong was that the Bruins had the Ball with about 11-12 seconds left afer crossing half court, and I would swear they had a final time out, which Howland so traditionally uses up with lots of minutes left in the game, but I'd swear that it showed they had 1 left, and rather than call time out and try to set up a play to either tie or win, they played it out with Powell exhausted and sick from the flu having to take the shot, and ackwardly at that. It was poor Coaching from Howland and I would Hope that he would be a man and evaluate his reasonings and take responsibility for that loss anyway. Love to hear from anyone who feels the same or Different. The Bruins still have a chance to win the Conference, and if they get into the Big Dance anything can happen. GOOOOOOOO BRUINS fight fight fight............
Not sure about the UW game but I did think he made a huge coaching blunder in the Wash St game in that final possession. He did have one time out left and should of used it. I think the Bruins more like 20 seconds left and they looked completely lost. Players were looking at each other. You'd think the Bruins would have a least one go to play they could of called during a timeout. But no, he left the time out on the table and the Bruins squandered away that last shot the same way they squandered the game. It was not a good day for Bruin fans.
Normally I watch the games live when possible or record them and will not listen to any media until I can see the game. This year, no longer watching live and purposefully hear the score before deciding to waste my time or not. SHABAZZ and PARKER... WE NEED YOU - SOS SOS SOS!
so quiet... this is from scout.com in regards to Tony Parker: "Tony Parker intends to sign with UCLA, according to sources.
The 6-8 center from Livonia (Georgia) Miller Grove, who is the #20-ranked player in the nation, will sign a National Letter of Intent Monday. Parker will announce his decision at his high school.
At the end of last week, Parker was in Charlotte, North Carolina, for the Jordan Brand Classic, and previously, the week before, in Portland, Oregon, for the Nike Hoop Summit. At both events, he spent a great deal of time with UCLA-committed recruits Shabazz Muhammad, the 6-5 wing from Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman, and Kyle Anderson, the 6-8 point forward from Jersey City (New Jersey) St. Anthony. Of course, the relationship between the three is well-documented, and since Muhammad signed with UCLA last week he and Anderson have been recruiting Parker. It was very advantageous that they spent time together recently at the two events, with Parker actually rooming with Anderson in Charlotte.
Parker is also strongly considering Duke, Kansas and Georgia. While we've heard from sources he's presently leaning to UCLA, he has vacillated before in his recruitment, and there are still five days left before he signs his NLI. Sources are indicating there is some pressure for him to stay close to home and go to Georgia and that the Bulldogs present the biggest challenge to UCLA at this stage.
-- UCLA is involved with the recruitment of Rodney Hood, the 6-7 forward who is leaving Mississippi State.
Hood was named an All-SEC freshman this last season, averaging 10.3 points and 4.8 rebounds in 32.8 minutes per game, and chose to transfer after long-time coach Rick Stansbury was fired. He reportedly wants to transfer to a school that could help him become a better defensive player, which might lead him to being interested in UCLA and UCLA Coach Ben Howland. Hood would have to sit out a year due to NCAA transfer rules."
Haha... I finally figured out how to post again. The "publish" button is hidden. You gotta scroll down after entering in the "I am not a robot words" to find it.
Cool. I have been trying to post something for a long time now, but have been blocked out. Haven't looked at this site for months, but ran across it in my bookmarks and thought I'd check before heading to bed. Well, nothing enlightening to add at this time. Just happy to be back.
Our boys are tearing it up in China... as expected, but good things are going "as expected". Too bad Shabazz did not make the trip. Would have LOVED for him to have that extra time and practice playing with the team. Oh well. Here's to an injury free off-season.
Josh Smith continues to be huge terd on the court. Show some passion already! On a separate note, rumor has it that another highly rated player will commit to the Bruins shortly. Pending...
Hhaha told you. Allerik Freeman commited. The rumor mill proved true. Here's to hoping more come through, but we got some troubles now with our incoming Freshmen maybe not be eligible to play. Pending...
As for the gasol kid, dunno. According to Jeff Eisenberg at Yahoo! Sports,
"Although his brothers are NBA players, fans should not expect too much out of Adria. The 18-year-old is not expected to see much playing time with the Bruins, according to Eisenberg. Fans may only see him during blowouts; he is a walk-on, after all.
Gasol was not expected to play basketball growing up, and he barely played in his first two years at Lausanne High School in Memphis. He spent the past two years in Spain but will come back to the United States for college.
His family's basketball background makes him an interesting story, but he is not expected to be a star like his brothers. The youngest Gasol will join a Bruins team that is trying to return to national prominence."
Bottom line - UCLA NEEDS SHABAZZ and ANDERSON to be eligible. Funny how the NCAA can make quick decisions for some teams, but not others when it comes to player eligibility. Just saying...
Good question. Keep hearing reports that UCLA Administration and the kid's parents keep pushing for a timeline, but none given. Honestly, I am surprised that UCLA cannot (or seemingly, does not) apply more pressure on the NCAA. This makes me think UCLA is trying not to "upset" the system for fear of being reviewed then in bad light.
Anderson has been cleared, but rumor is that the news is not so good regarding Shabazz. Season starts in just a couple days so even if he is cleared, the damage is already done via practice times, clear heads, team chemistry, etc.
Noah Allen justed gave his verbal to UCLA. Dunno anything about this kid, other than he's got a head on his shoulders. He was apparently offered by Northwestern, Harvard, and UCLA (to name a few).
Well I told you... bad news regard Shabazz. BUT that being said, it seems new information is coming to light which MIGHT lessen the penatly. My sources tell me UCLA expects Shabazz to be back after a few games. This is overall good news.
What I am hearing is that it is HIGHLY unlikely that Phil would coach at UCLA or that UCLA would even want Phil to coach at UCLA. The names that are popping up are Brad Stevens from Butler and Shaka Smart from VCU. Honestly, I am not too excited about either. Then again, not really sure WHO I would be excited about. Don't know how Phil would fit in the college game now at this stage of his career (let alone financially).
Apparently Dan G. was extremely happy with the Bruins "win" over Texas. Ironic really. What a terrible game. Fortunetly we got the W, however things need to be fixed. If any change will occur, it may have to happen with DG's position first, then Howland. Football shake-up has seemed to work and now UCLA is seen more as a football school, than a bball school. My, how times have changed.
So, does Howland still get the can after this season? Team is winning, but not looking too good at doing it. Hard call to make it would seem. Thoughts?
Too bad UCLA didn't follow u$c's plan with the firing of their coach. u$c reportedly was planning on releasing their coach regardless and wanted to do it BEFORE any possible winning streak as otherwise it would have been less accepting in the public's eyes to fire a coach after winning a lot of games. I don't think u$c ever really had to worry about that happening (i.e. winning a lot of games), however this is exactly where UCLA finds themselves now.
Regardless, my sources tell me that Howland's job is still very much on the line. This is perhaps one reason why Parker does not get more minutes as Howland is playing only for the immediate win to save his job rather then to help the team long term. If this is true or not - I cannot comment. Guess we are in a wait and see mode, however lossing to poor teams (i.e. Cal Poly) as well as the LARGE number of player transfers (i.e. TOO many to list), one has to wonder. The LA market is tough.
that was a bad loose today an it looked to me like muhamad was potting be cause he dident start an the parker kid looks so out of shape bad loose so how many of the kids are going pro this year
Bazz will go for sure. Parker will transfer. Adams and Anderson will return. The coach will be fired. This actually is ideal. Bazz can't (or won't) defend, Parker I was originally not keen on Brad Stevens, but man, his teams CONTINUE to produce with lower level talent. Problem is that he may not bring the WOW factor and plays a more conservative game than the LA market demands. I think the BBALL program just needs a shake-up.
stevens would be nice fit i thinkthe can pull big time player he looks like he is a judge of talent any way the big time player should want to go to ucla if i was abig time player iwould want to go there to many good players in cal not to get good talent
Rumors swirl that Dan G. will try to save his job coming up for contract renewal at the end of March by dumping Ben. Here's to hoping BOTH are gone. We need to clean house and start anew.
Oh man. How I wish this were true, but I'd be curious to know how accurate these reports are. I have heard there are discussions going on within UCLA, but not that anyone has been contacted as of yet. Mark Few's Zags are already #1 in the nation and have a chance to win it all (no one dominant team this year) and I'm not sure what would motivate him (money? weather?) to leave a position where he is treated like a God and has reached the highest levels to take over UCLA which would require rebuilding, politics, and high pressure. He already had the chance to go to the Pac to his alma mater (UofO), but turned it down. Yes, UCLA has the name, historically, but what does this mean in the end if you can win it all somewhere else and walk on water at the same time?
Unkind seeding and loss of a key player in Jordan. Looks like a possible early exit from the Big Dance. Hope this is not the case and that these Bruins and pull it together. LET'S DO THIS!
bad loss hope muhamid gos great player but he was a desease selfish player dont think his teem mates like playing with him think holand babyed him hope holand is gone to

So has Howland been exposed? Just play zone and attack his man-to-man straight up. Seems to work for most.
So what's the deal with Howland? Is he staying or going?

If any change will occur, it may have to happen with DG's position first, then Howland. Football shake-up has seemed to work and now UCLA is seen more as a football school, than a bball school. My, how times have changed.
We go the win over Missouri! Way to go, Ben and the team!
We go the win?
So, does Howland still get the can after this season? Team is winning, but not looking too good at doing it. Hard call to make it would seem. Thoughts?
lets see how the they finish i think thay have to at least win there leage
Howland's substitution and time out strategy is very odd.
Odd? I would say it sucks!
Ben needs to go NOW!
i agree ben most go bring in someone young like a danny manning
Rumors swirl that Dan G. will try to save his job coming up for contract renewal at the end of March by dumping Ben. Here's to hoping BOTH are gone. We need to clean house and start anew.
Hearing now that the Mora hire may buy DG another year or two. Ugh.
how about bill walton as new head coach
Uhhh... no.
Brad Stevens, Mark Few, Shaka Smart - I'll take any of those.
We need a new coach... and FAST!
News is leaking internally, Howland is OUT after the end of the season. Booster are in talks with Mark Few's people I hear from sources. Pending.
LET'S DO THIS!
bad loss hope muhamid gos great player but he was a desease selfish player dont think his teem mates like playing with him think holand babyed him hope holand is gone to
steve alford who ever thought
Big Splash hire? Yeah, maybe in a kid's inflateable pool. Sigh... what a wasted opportunity.
This guy stinks and he hasn't even coached 1 game yet.
Hey... common. Somebody write SOMETHING here. PLEASE?!?!?!
