After putting together the most impressive class in the Pac-10 during the early signing period, Arizona coach Sean Miller just received a great boost to his 2012 haul by landing junior PF Grant Jerrett, who is No. 12 in the ESPNU Super 60. Jerrett, from LaVerne (Calif.) Lutheran High School, chose the Wildcats over UCLA, Washington, Duke, North Carolina, USC, Texas and Kansas. Jerrett, 6-foot-8 and 200 poounds, is the West's most promising big man in a loaded 2012 class. ESPN 11/29
DeAndre Daniels, the top available prospect in the class of 2011, is currently tucked away at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., and little recruiting information is coming out concerning the former Texas commitment. Sources close to Daniels' situation, however, have informed Rivals.com that four schools are currently pushing toward the top of his recruitment. Kansas, Florida, UCLA and Texas are emerging as the teams to beat. Cardinal Sports 11/30
Kyle Anderson is one of the players who breaks the static mold of basketball positions. Offensively, he has the skills of a point guard, but defensively he doesn't have the foot speed to defend a quick point guard. Basically Anderson is a player who can play any position offensively. Regardless at what position Anderson is labeled, he is a player who is best at facilitating the offense. Although Anderson is capable of putting up big numbers as a scorer what makes him special is his ability to create plays and distribute the ball. So I like him best playing more in the middle of the floor as either a point guard or a face up four-man. At 6-foot-8, Anderson continues to grow and could end up around 6-foot-10. More than likely, he does end up a four-man and not a point guard like Livingston. Nonetheless, there are strong similarities between the two as tall playmakers with exceptional basketball IQs. DeAndre Daniels, a 6-foot-8, 180-pound senior forward from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., attended the game as part of his official visit to KU. Daniels, who decommitted from Texas in mid-August, also has UCLA on his list of schools that still includes Texas, Florida, Kentucky and Oregon. He’s Rivals.com’s No. 9-rated player nationally. His visit will last until Saturday. KU Sports 12/3

Who in the powder blue hell gave Ben Howland tenure?
I am embarrassed. In basketball, Five years and the Bruins still can't deal with a zone. Five years and the Bruins still do not take advantage of their superior athletic abilities - try a press maybe? Feed Josh Smith in on the inside - too simple. Howland is too narrow minded with no creativity. Football is also a joke. Where is the responsibility? Guererro needs to go. He is bad karma and bad management. Before him, UCLA football had won 8 in a row against USC. Now we have lost the last 11 of 12. Guererro is too controlling and provides no leadership.
Unbelievable!
After playing a great game against Kansas they lay an egg against Montana.
No longer going to waste my time deceiving myself that these guys can consistently put in the effort and showcase their talents.
Howland doesn't know how to attack a zone; nevr has and never will.
They have to win the Pac 10 tournament to get in and that's not going to happen.
No more analyzing or complaining. They flat out have no "onions" and lack any sense of urgency.
If there is a silver lining here; these idiots better not be thinking about the NBA; they can barely play in the NCAA.
Howland went public about the last call in Kansas and the Bruins were playing victim ... rubbish. It was a foul, live with it and prepare for Montana. Instead they got victimized by a hungrier Montana team.
AD DG has let this program go down the toilet. How sad that the Alums and fan base don't run him, Howland and that pathetic football coach out of Westwood.
It is a very sad day today. Don't look now but USC, UW, Arizona all have better programs and better recruiting classes. If the kid is not going to ever see the court; don't tie a up a scholarship on him. It does the kid or the progam no good.
Unbelievable!
Totally agree with what you guys said. After the football game I thought "well at least we can redeem ourselves in basketball sunday." Wrong!
What makes it worse is that USC beat Texas yesterday. USC, which should be crippled is able to beat the #20 team and we can't even beat Montana. That is pathetic.
This is last season all over again. Jerime Anderson should not be allowed to touch a basketball. Every team will just continue to run a zone against us and we will just keep hearing "well we thought Jrue would stay..."
How can penalty ridden USC be doing this much better than us?
NIT would be a stretch this year!! Don't expect the twins to salvage the program...
We need to clear Anderson, Lane, Stover and Carlinos roster spots....and get some guys that can ball....
I'm debating about sending a letter to CBH
You guys must be crazy. If you didn't realize until now that BH has no clue then you didn't watch Derek Rose crush Collison and BH didn't realise that Westbrook was a much better match. Or how did BH let Afflalo get his 3rd foul before the first half ended against Florida? Or why did he recruit Anderson or Lane? Anderson is at best an intramural player with little basketball talent. Lane is a volly baller. BH needs to feed the ball to either Nelson or Smith via Honeycutt. Sit Anderson he can't help us. The spot where we disagree, I think Stover can be a player. He lacks confidence thats all.
1) Stover played Div 5 small schools West L.A. High School basketball. 2) If his 7 ft frame was so good, he would not have had to "red-shirt" as a freshman
3) The kid dances like a lost ballerina in the middle. He's been described as "raw." This is UCLA, not the pansy league...
4 roster spots for next year....
I know it sounds crazy, but I think Malcolm needs to start as point guard. Honeycutt should start as shooting guard, with Reeves, Lane, and Smith playing forward/center.
This might give the team a better chance to shoot threes (allowing Malcolm and Honeycutt to spread the zone) and also create a mismatch with Reeves being guarded by someone smaller/weaker than him. Reeves could also have some nice dishes to Smith which I have already seen him do a couple times and Lane could float around for offensive rebounds and set screens for the guards.
Then rotate Zeke, Lamb, and Stover in accordingly. These three guys lack confidence but I see potential in them. I think 8 players is enough unless things get really dicey and then I would like to see Carlino take some shots.
Any thoughts on that starting lineup?
I think it's time UCLA go USC and recruit a few straight out thugs. Our current players are a bunch of push-overs. I have confidence our student body can integrate these thugs into society.
Weak PG play, weak outside shooting = problem.
Here is how its going to happen or at least i hope it will... UCLA has another bad year in football next year and both AD and Coach are gone. In comes another AD and more importantly, Urban Meyer after a year off....
Im dreaming but perhaps it will come true. It is sad the last 3 to 4 years the UCLA sports program has drastically went downward. Soccer, basketball, football, vollyball, and everything else except men baseball and women basketball.
Matt Carlino is gone.
Carlino is a punk but at least he knows to leave a sinking ship.
At this point no idea sounds crazy. Let's try it. Looking foward to next year. A line up of Wear, Wear, Nelson, Honeycutt and Lee. Smith, Lamb, Jones, Powell, and Lane will need to prove themselves. If Howland can't win big with this group then it's time for him to move on. Afterall this is UCLA Basketball.
I know nothing about Carlino as a person, but what kind of expectations did he have? Does he consider himself a stud? Even if the kid can play some, it irritates me that some incoming freshman is such a prima donna that he thinks he has some token right to immediately play...on the heels of a concussion yet. Hey, Matt -- ADIOS!
Reeves Nelson is lazy and lackadaisical. It also doesn't help that he carries around this "whoa is me" hangdog look. It's bizarre, really. He has this crazed, almost Jack Nicholson-in-"The-Shining" look about him, yet half the time it looks like he's feeling sorry for himself.
You just hope he figures out that aggression and effort will make him a regular force. Right now there's too much inconsistency with him, and it seems much of it is in his head.
Don't know about lee, but I would try Honeycutt at guard
How many zones do you think we will face this season? How many zones do you think we will face next season? How many years has this been going on? It won't make any difference who we have in the front line, if the guards can't play facing the basket, then forget it. To make things worse, this year's team can't play man defense. Seems like we keep saying the same thing every year. When is it going to stop?
What an unimpressive win. We had problems scoring against another zone, one put on by Cal Poly no less. It's sickening. A youth coach can teach a better zone offense than Howland.
Why don't the Bruin guards ever dribble drive and attack the gaps of the zone? It's fundamental. Attacking the gaps makes the zone collapse or at least at minimum make defenders react. Heaven forbid a Bruin guard find a teammate underneath for an easy bounce pass and layup, or kick out to an outside shooter- in rhythm mind you. By the way or outside shooters are not that bad it's just that our offense is not set up to get the ball to our outside shooters in rhythm. Instead you get a lot of one bounce 3pt shots or out of rhythm, " I guess I might as well shoot" shots. Watch the next game and you'll see what I mean.
Why don't Bruin bigs set high screens on the zone defenders on top to help create seams for our guards to attack. Watching the game tonight when the Bruins did this - and it was rare- they created some nice scoring opportunities.
I've been patient with Howland but I think he's finally jumped the shark this season with the team again unable to score against a zone. At some point you have to stop blaming the players and you have to start looking at the coach.
Howland needs to go. He has lost all credability with these kids.
What the heck do they do in practice?
They will see Zone; they have seen zone and they still can't deal with it.
Why do I bother with this team?
Another defection ... where there is smoke, there is fire.
Carlino leaving ... another scholarship opens up; hopefully some more guys will get the heck out of there and free up some spots.
This team is going nowhere and Howland needs to go. Caretaker my a**. Coach them on fundemenatals of how to move without the ball; hi-low passing with the bigs and find the sweet spot in a zone. They do none of this.
They are in a world of trouble. They played their hearts out in Kansas and left everything they learned in Kansas. It's a shame. No pride, no heart, no fundementals.
All you BH slappies, need to stop giving Howland a free pass. He simply does not work these westwood brats hard enough. They get out worked and out played every game by inferior opponents (talent wise). How do these guys look at themselves in the mirror.
BYU will be a massacre!
He is an emotional kid and is surrounded by guys who simply don't care. I would be p***ed as well.
He needs to be above that and clear his head.
Howland has to put him in a position to succeed. He is a tough kid and needs to be a leader; that's a lot to ask from a Sophomore. He needs to snap out of his "victim" status and grow up and lead this team. He is the onluy one that has a desire and if he loses it; the rest of the team is doomed.
Why was he ever given a scholarship? Recruiting simply is horrible.
Don't blame the kid... thank him for opening up another spot.
When your best "Victory" is a One point loss, this 5-4 Bruin team is in BIG trouble! The Bruins looked defeated with the 11 point victory. This NEEDS to be Joshua Smith's team. He knows it, BH knows it and so does the rest of the team. 20 and 10 every night. The team has no focal point now, make is JS! As for Malcom Lee, he has no role on the team. When JERIME ANDERSON outplays you as a shooting guard, you are doomed! Maybe some time at PG could put his head back in the game. Hopefully the Davis game could be used productively with different sets, I don't know. As for BH, he won't be fired anytime soon. He'll be given a chance with the Wear's, then who knows? BH WILL have to adjust his style to the personality of the different kids. Whether he likes it or not, he can't scream down the pampered, entitled athletes of today. He will lose them...As for Carlino, he has a history of bouncing. I can't blame BH for this particular kid, BUT I do see trending when it comes to transfers...18-14 NIT bid...
DAMN UCLA! What the hell?! UCLA is suppose to be better than Duke, North Carolina...NO if, ands or buts! The history and tradition that John Wooden built is quickly crumbling. Sad.
It's not going to happen with this coach and this AD.
Don't sweat this stuff, or it will drive you crazy.
They will not even be invited to the NIT.
Very sad and BH needs to take full responsibility.
The massacre at BYU will say it all unless they get some pride juice into them.
We still have 4 roster spots open for next yr.
Carlino (thank you)
Stover
Anderson
Lane the volleyball player
...send em to UNLV or Div 3 ball...this is UCLA...we dont have time to develop cra*
If Howland does not make major changes again, we will not make the NIT again and he will b canned after nxt yr...
The soft Wears will not save us...
