He will finally be with Nell...I read "Pyramid of success" and other Wooden gems to my employees in a non-sports related business. What an incredible human being! You will be forever missed...God Bless!
As classy a human being as there has ever been. He has been the ultimate role model in life and in sports, and even more so at times when we needed one the most. Here's hoping that they keep his seat in Pauley empty for every home basketball game, because no one can ever fill this man's place in Bruin lore. We suffered a major loss today, but that hardly is a blemish compared to the major gains we have for the 99 years we were lucky to have this man's wisdom. Thank you Coach for giving so much from your pure heart and amazing soul!
Rest in Peace Coach. As a young die hard Bruin fan, you will be missed... I totally agree: Bruin Fans, we must rally now and not let Coach Wooden's seat go to ANYBODY! There will NEVER be a coach like Mr. Wooden in college basketball EVER AGAIN! Special prayers go out to his family... This is a tough loss...HE IS AN ICON
I am impressed by so much about John Wooden and have had a framed Pyramid of Success in my office for many years. And how impressive is it that one of his favorite quotes is the poem written by one of his former students, Swen Nater?! The teacher was also always the student.
I agree about leaving his seat empty, as it should be "retired," but I certainly wouldn't turn his kids Jim or Nan down if one of them wanted to sit there. I was a freshman for the first championship, but I always admired Wooden as much or more than any Bruin team, and not just as a coach, but as a person. I take comfort in the fact that he has finally reunited with Nell, whom he has missed so dearly for the past 25 years.
"Coach." "Wizard of Westwood." "John Wooden". A great teacher, parent, advisor, speaker, and coach. Those who knew him, heard him and believed in what he had to say are better human beings because of that fact. When God created human beings, his template must surely have been modeled by John Wooden. Dignified and humble. The world would be a better place if more people believed and lived by the Pyramid of Success. Every single UCLA student/fan should have that Pyramid embedded in their minds and hearts. He must be so happy to be with Nell again. His truest love. Rest in peace, coach.
He was pretty amazing. I got the chance to meet with him a couple of times and he really was one of the most genuinely nice guys on the planet. Humble to the bone, but also extremely sweet & kind. He is the one that gave Ucla it's luster and I am so thankful he came to Ucla when he did. He really built the program into one of the greatest traditions in all of sports and so grateful he did. Also really was one of a kind and the world lost a gentle sole. Your the greatest Coach Wooden and glad to have known you. Bruin for life.

"Talent is God given, be humble; Fame is man given, be grateful; conceit is self given; be careful"
The great John Wooden
The last of the great ones has passed into history. Never again will the world of sport be graced with such presence again

I have a signed copy by The Wizard of the Pyramid of Success! It has and will now forever be one of my most cherished items! RIP (with Nell) Coach!!!
