Mike Moser To Transfer From UCLA
By Bruin Basketball Report
From UCLA Athletic Department:
UCLA men's basketball head coach Ben Howland announced today that 6-foot-8-inch freshman forward Mike Moser will not be returning for next season.
Moser, from Portland, Ore., and Grant High School, will transfer to play his final years at another school. Moser will leave UCLA after the spring quarter and hasn't made a decision as to where he will transfer.
"Mike is a good kid, a great student and a very hard worker," Howland said. "I have enjoyed having him in our program. He has a great attitude and I’m supportive of him finding a program where he will have a chance to play more minutes than we envision he will have here.”
Moser averaged 0.6 points and 0.5 rebounds per game while appearing in 15 of the 32 contests without making a start during the 2009-10 season. He played in 70 minutes (4.7 minutes per game) while shooting 20.0 percent (4-for-20) from the field and 9.1 percent (1-for-11) from three-point range on the year. His season high of three points (came on his only three-pointer of the year), was in the 69-67 loss to then No. 12 Butler on Nov. 27, 2009.
"The way the season worked out for me this year, I feel it is necessary for me personally, to make a move somewhere else so I can play," Moser said. "I have enjoyed my time here at UCLA and have built great relationships with my coaches and teammates. I’m going to stay in Division I and haven’t spoken to anyone at all about playing. I won’t rush into a decision. I’ll just wait and see what happens in the next few weeks."

My wish list is almost complete:
Bobo - check
Moser - Check
One ast. who recruited these guys - check
Next up
Stover-
Anderson-
Signing of Ray M.
Signing of Trey
Firing of trainer
Keep it going...
I hope we make the NIT fellas...SC will still crush us on the glass
The purge continues. It's funny, when practice began last year, Moser (physically) reminded people of the "Prince". 6'8, with long arms, could have been the hedge/double team master that Luc was. Over his head from the start. Is Anthony "D-1 ball ain't no joke" Stover next? We shall see...
Anderson needs to be the next one gone! I think that is the consensus 'round here.
no loss here...he was our 10th man...
ADD SOME BIGS, Ray N Trey
Okay CBH, we now have some spots open to land another big or two (and by big I don't mean 6'9"/200. That is tall. We need someone to spell Smith until CBH gets him into shape, someone that can bang and bruise. Any more Lorenzo Mata clones out there? I wish Moser well but it just wasn't a right fit.. As for Morgan, let's see if he can cut down on the off court "bad" habits wherever he eventually goes. My guess is he will be a non-factor. Problem is that everyone who goes to UCLA thinks THEY are going to be the star. Ain't gonna happen. Next year's squad will be run thru two players, Honeycutt and Nelson. All the others are in support roles. That INCLUDES Lee until something drastically changes over the summer.
One quick thing to add. Westbrook was the ultimate support player who could have transferred to be a star at a lesser school. He DID NOT, stayed the course and...well...the rest is NBA success history!!! Current Bruins, take note!!!
Wow.. Ok someone check my math. We are allowed 13 Scholarships
We have 6 on scholarship returning
Lee, Anderson, Nelson, Lane, Honeycutt, Stover
3 Incoming. Lamb, Smith and Jones
3 We want McCallum, Ziegler and T. Jones
That leaves one scholarship left for next year
Where we want Chol, Dawson and Wiltjer
That leaves a potential 2010/11 line up of:
PG Anderson, L. Jones, McCallum
SG Lee, Lamb
SF Honeycutt, Ziegler
PF Lane, T. Jones
C Nelson, Smith, Stover
It also leaves us very thin if we don't sign McCallum, Jones and Ziegler.
Does anyone know if Stover Redshirted?
Stover is a p.o.s. I will write him off already!
He is 6'10, played in DIV FIVE CIF in the small schools division in SO CAL....He was 8 inches above the rest of the peeps....He stunk soo bad, CBH benched him the entire Frosh season...r u kidding me...Moser was the 10th man...bye bye....Stover was the 9th man...bye bye...Get rid of Stover and Anderson (D3 u make me sick to my stomach turnover smiling face Anderon)
Read my posts...bye Stover, Anderon...BUT we need players to fill key positions...CBH is the man...he reads my posts, will fire the trainer as well and will recruit bigs....otherwise we lose to SUC again....
BRUINFAN smells NIT...
As BIG of a fan that I am...
LOOK LIKE A N.I.T TEAM TO ME...
soooo many of our fans are naive....
drop Anderson after getting Ray M....
Sign Ziegler....
Sign T Jones...
Drop Stover he plaey against nobody in high school...
McCallum, Ziegler,, Zones....
It';s on WESTWOOD.....red carpet is out....if they are smart....
COACH BH is one of the best in the land...
Lee is crusty...he's got no game and cannot shoot the 3...hes a straw man...I'm talkin smack cuz he has 0 chance of going pro unless he is a senior and phenomenal...he's worse than Kapono, who is less athletic
My philosophy is that it all starts with a point guard. Get a good one in there now...experienced point guards lead to championship. Big men, if not all other players, are useless without a good point man! I'd focus on Ray McCallum first and foremost.
I think we are ALL in agreement there my man!
Ray Come and Play
Ray Come and Play
Ray Come and Play
Side note here, with Kentucky losing all 5 of its best players to the draft... This wont be good for UCLA cause I can see them offering more immediate playing time as well as a more free flow offense.... Crossing my fingers here.
T Jones is on their list of recruits.
Remember they also lost Bledsoe so they need to recruit 2 guards. This late in the recruiting war, they probably can now use a Ziegler, or a McCallum as well as another guard.
Remember they lost 2pf, 1c, 1 sg, 1pg.
Perhaps they might entice jones by also giving a scholarship to his teammate terrance ross. Hopefully coach can come through on the recruiting.
Sorry but Kentucky can't hold UCLA's jock strap! Be a winner, come to UCLA!
Bruin Fan,
I wish you would leave the site. NIT? You are a clown and don't really consider you a fan at all. Ucla will via for the Pac-10 championship next year and I believe will do well in the tourney as they always do. I feel you are most likely a trojan with nothing better to do than to post on this site
Agreed. We need a sign-in here. SC folks are brainless. In my book, it's not even a college. In fact, many of the Cal States would kill SC academically.
Wow...two transfers now!
EXODUS! Movement of the sucky...
FYI - Bruin Fan is actually a die hard fan and has been on this site for years, but I think he is taking this pitfall too seriously and I agree, needs to look on the bright side of better personnel coming in. But believe me, he wants another banner in the Pauley rafters as much as we do!
I'll vouch for Brew In...he may be going through a pessimistic phase...but, come on...dude lives in his mom's basement, what do you expect...besides he's been flapping his gums here for way longer than you NorCal Bruin...if anyone is a potential Trojan...it's u!!!...I smell a trojan horse...
u nake me nautious...if you were on this site for the past 3 years, you'd know better than to hang yourself out to dry....these folks know...
we are all pulling for CBH to get it together...enjoy your weekend...
Just saw on another Bruin Site Eddie Williams ankle, which he broke, is not 100% after 6 months...just thought I'd share my concerns with regards to Brendan Lane...
Bruin fan - you are a jerk. I have been a Bruin for over 40 years - show some class!
please focus on the team and the players....
Guys can we stop talking so much trash about the Bruin players? While I agree many of them turned out to be far less than expectation, let us not take it out on the players especially the ones that give their best. Afterall, pretty much everyone on this board was going googoo gaga over these player recruits initially.
I recall everyone including all the recruiting forums touting how great our 2008 class was. Everyone agreed all the guys in that class was pretty good. It didnt pan out, fine, dont blame the players if they gave their best.
The players werent the ones who put those ranking on themselves and were recruited by us. Let us show some class and not blame them for not turning out the way we thought they would. There are tons of schools with this problem.
While I agree most should transfer elsewhere to both benefit themselves, ucla, and other schools, lets stop talking trash about them....
Class on the court and off, as well as being fans guys..
thank you
at this point, the starting line-up for next year except for PG is probably set:
C Josh Smith
PF Reeves Nelson
SF Tyler Honeycutt
SG Malcolm Lee
PG I think this is really the only open position
following up on my last post:
Lamb will be a good backup at SG
Lane will back up C and PF (who knows if Stover will be ready to contribute more than a few minutes a game)
with Moser's departure we have no backup at SF at the moment, unless Howland uses Lamb there too...
Less than a week until signing day. Does anyone know why we are not in the running for Knight, Selby or Joseph? They are 3 highly ranked guards.
Swami does not know about those three (Knight, Selby, Joseph), but Swami predicts CBH has something or someone up his sleeve.
I'm pumped for nxt year...every program has a hiccup...I bet he has some Cameroonian up his sleeve...CBH is da man and will shock the world...
I think we all agree. You should STFU!
Welcome to the world of MEN's sport...that's how we roll. Do we really wish bad upon their family, no. But in this forum, we're hard! Take your weak stuff somewhere else.
Quality not Quantity is my new mantra. Thinking back on CBH's teams, we have always been thin (Except maybe 2007). We have always had solid hard working players in the middle (Hollins (Sr. year), Mata, Aboya, Nelson).
Lee, Honeycutt and Lamb on the wing. Nelson, Smith, Lane (if he recovers and gains weight) in the middle. Worst case scenario Abdul Hamid plays point. I think I can live with that until next year.
McCallum may be our key unsigned but I saw an article that says his choices are narrowed to AZ and Detroit.
Same article said Smith fat and slow. Good rebounding and low post moves but we play full court here!! LOL Learn from BoBo lose weight, go to class.
Curious as to your source of info.
I appreciate what A. Hamid has contributed to the program but there is NO way, he or Anderson should run the point at U-C-L-A...maybe an intramural team...this is U-C-L-A...point guard U. Ray, you hear me?? Sign already...
It was an article on college hoops reviewing the Mcdonalds AA game earlier this month.
I understand your point but worst case scenario means we have no other alternative. We have all written off Anderson, Lee didn't work out, Lazeric Jones is an unknown (hopefully the reports and CBH are on track with him).
McCallum (#60 overall) may sign but I am so scarred by the 2008 class that I question every newcomer.
Even if you buy into rankings, there are 3 highly ranked guards still available (Knight (#1), Selby (#4), Joseph(#7))
Keala King (#25) Lamb's teammate signed with Arizona State.
BTW DB - Knight and Selby are being recruited by Kentucky so they probably won't challenge us for McCallum. However, Arizona is recruiting Joseph and McCallum. Remember they are losing their point guard (Nic Wise) and lost Gaddy to Washington.
I'm curious why no one has mentioned CJ Leslie as a possible recruit. Bruins are making a late push for him. Although he is listed as a power forward, he will more likely play the small position in college due to his perimeter skills and explosiveness. He also has the ability to be a defensive stopper.
If the Bruins are lucky to grab both CJ and TJ, I won't be surprised if they make the starting lineup next year with Nelson/JS at center.
Honestly, the suspense is killing me...I check this site 3 times a day hoping for a new article about a new Bruin...guess we'll have to wait until signing day....We here at BBR, minus the SUC fans, KNOW you will land 3-5 top recruits THIS YEAR.
Fellas, let's list all the reasons to come to
U-C-L-A:
Coach will get you positioned for the NBA
NCAA Basketball tradition like no other
We will win the Pac-10 this coming yr in basketball
Athletic dept. is #1 in the nation
Academics like no other
Football program will be top 25 soon
Advertisement connections
Ladies
Weather
Pristine campus nested nxt to the fresh prince of Bel-Air
No brainer to rock the U-C-L-A jersey
Interesting to see the list of recruits on espn's rankings. It seems that Jones and McCallum has really jumped up lots. Jones is now top 10 and ahead of Leslie and McCallum is top 20.
Scout.com is the only site that says we offered CJ Leslie.
Course they also ranked Bobo as a 5 star and Anderson as the #3 pg in the country.
DB - College Hoops is raving over McCallums performance at the McD's AA Tourney.
3 more days to first signing day. Although no guarentee anyone will sign that day.
You are sounding better Bruin Fan. Keep it up.
Someone help me out here and let me know what is going on with UCLA basketball and the mass churn of players. I am more than a little worried about the current state of UCLA basketball and am a little removed from the UCLA gossip and have been for a few years - being in the middle of SEC country doesn't help.
Someone clarify for me....?
Thanks,
Do you think Howland would give the starting pg job to Lazeric Jones, Jerime Anderson, or (if he signs) Ray McCallum?
A few bad apples is certainly crippling for a program especially one with a lot of talents that went to NBA early. Also our less active offense might shy some top recruits away due to them wanting to showcase themselves to the next level of play.
These factors make the UCLA program currently weakened but a revision of the recruiting plans and management by the UCLA basketball staff will hopefully be a remedy for the program and steer it back on track.
CBH still is doing a great job especially if you think about how many final fours he brought us to with more limited talents than the other big programs. We usually roll with 2-3 Mcdonald all Americans while others roll with 4-5-6 of them.
It was a rebuilding year this past year but we should get back on track.
