Kansas has already signed guard Royce Woolridge of Phoenix, leaving one more scholarship to give. Self has said he might not use it. But Kansas appears to still be in the running for Terrence Jones, a 6-8 power forward from Portland who is rated No. 13 in the country by Rivals.com. Jones and Selby have said they might want to play together. USA Today 4/19

Oregon prospect Terrence Jones ranks as the nation's top unsigned recruit. Jones plans to announce either April 23 or 30. (He will do so in tandem with Terrence Ross.) He currently lists his finalists as Oklahoma, Oregon, Washington, UCLA, Kentucky and Kansas. The belief is that Jones will stay on the West Coast. He says he still is going through the decision process. "I'm not planning on making a decision or even getting down or writing the pros and cons until all my high school games are over." Jones has kept Oregon and Oklahoma on his list, despite some uncertainty at both programs. "It's tough to make a decision like this when a school [Oregon] doesn't have a coach. So I just try to do what I can." ESPN 4/20

Deonte Burton of Compton, Calif., has signed a national letter of intent to study and play basketball at the University of Nevada beginning in 2010-11, Wolf Pack head coach David Carter announced Wednesday.  A 6-1, 185-pound guard, Burton comes to Nevada from Compton Centennial High School. He won the John R. Wooden High School Player of the Year Award this season after averaging 21.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists. Burton was also named the CIF Southern California Division III player of the year and scored more than 2,000 points during his high school career. KTVN Reno 4/21

While nothing has been said recently about the remaining 2010 prospects Alabama is looking at, there was good news for Tide fans when 2011 big man Angelo Chol trimmed his list to five schools, and Alabama was among them. According to JayhawkSlant.com, Chol eliminated UCLA and Florida from his list, which leaves Alabama, Connecticut, Georgetown, Kansas and Washington. The 6′8, 205-pound center is considered one of the elite centers in the entire class, averaging 16 points, 13 rebounds and 8 blocks per game last season as a junior. Tide Sports 4/21

Jefferson basketball star Terrence Jones will make a recruiting visit to Kansas University on Sunday, Jones’ mother, Linda Mashia-Jones, confirmed Friday.  Rivals.com first reported Jones’ plan to visit Kansas. Jones, The Oregonian Class 5A player of the year in 2009 and 2010, plans to announce his college decision Friday, April 30, during a press conference at the North Portland school, Linda Mashia-Jones said Thursday.  Jones, a 6-9 forward and rated by ESPNU as the country's No. 9 recruit for the class of 2010, has long had Washington, Oregon, UCLA, Kentucky and Oklahoma as his final five choices. Jones added Kansas to his finalists Saturday while in New York for the Jordan Brand Classic. After the game, Jones told reporters he was planning to take his fifth and final official visit to Kansas. Oregon Live 4/23

The Wildcats can expect to see a lot of pressing by the Ducks next season with Dana Altman as coach. But then, he may not find it easy to get enough players to do it. But Altman has already landed a recruiting visit from Dwayne Polee. It will be interesting to see if he can get Terrence Jones to take his phone calls. Arizona Daily Star 4/25

We have 4 open rides and nothing seems to be happening. Aren't we recruiting anybody else ?
I've heard names such as Matt Carlino, Remi Barry, and Emerson Murray but there is no mention here ?
McCallum and Zeigler opted to play for their fathers at smaller non-major schools.
Burton was offered but went to Nevada ???
It's very unlikely that Terrence Jones will be coming here.
Chol, the best recruit in California next year eliminated us already.
Isn't it about time we got some good news ?

Agreed! I talked with Kim Howland recently and she said they are trying extremely hard to land Terrence Jones. So I will decide the validity of CBH's recruiting once Jones signs and where. If he goes elsewhere too, I am not seeing the "desire" for kids to come to play for him like how they were lining up a few year's back.
CBH is getting reputation as a hard*ss coach in practice and I am disappointed that some of these young kids are too immature (lazy, greedy, glorified, etc) to realize that learning the Bruin system and taking their lumps only HELPS their chances to go to the next level. For anyone thinking different, I will give you just two words of how a mildly recruited, dedicated, hardworking, unselfish athlete follows the system and reaps the rewards of the NBA good life... RUSSELL WESTBROOK!

Terrence Jones signing would put CBH back on top. We should offer T. Jones and Terrence Ross a package deal - Why not we have the room. Kansas is already doing this.

I thought Burton was a lock at UCLA? What about Jon Loyd? Must be a Camaroonian invasion about to come a shore!

Like a lot of you guys I check this board regularly, seeking some optimistic recruiting news that leads to a key signing. Recent news has included top recruits going elsewhere -- a bummer for sure. But then I think, What did top recruit Jrue Holiday give us? He was a mediocre talent in his one year and departed. Who's to say some of these top signings won't be the same? I'm convinced more than everywhere (look at Butler) that a solid TEAM of starters and bench can compete and win. A kid who knows he's not one-and-done and using college as a professional prerequisite will get on the floor for a loose ball and dive over the scorer's table to keep a play alive. Hopefully coach can land some kids -- unlike Drew Gordon, Bobo, etc. -- with enough basketball skill in their own right, but who can fill key needs and roles to make this a winning group.

"I'm convinced more than ever" -- sorry, typo.

If the kid signs with Nevada...he's not good enough for our program...and problem can't cut it academically...consider it a blessing in disguise...I am all for the Cameroonian/Nigerian Power forwards with a Canadian ball handler at p.g...We may be "team international"...I mean UCLA prides itself on diversity darn it...

windycitys,
I like your style. Darren Collison wasn't even rated in the top 75 of his class and same goes with westbrook. Ratings aren't everything and totally agree with one & dones not making it. I mean Kentucky and Kansas should have been the national championship but kids that care about the school, want to be there and respect the traditions sometimes do better. Regardless it is still nice to have a Kevin Love and top 10 talents, but it isn't everything. Staying positive always in NorCal and loving our bruins regardless.

Nice to hear that perhaps there is a slim slim hope we could still land T.Jones - that would be very nice. I have a feeling though that he plans on staying close to home. I guess we will find out soon enough.

CBH and Mathews sign Terrence Jones and his friend T. Ross. Why not we have the scholarships. How good is Ross? I never heard or Russell Westbrook or Darren Collison in HS.

One of you bloggers mentioned 2010 as a "do or die" season for coach Ben. While I'm not surprised to hear this because of recent defections, a scarcity of top recruits committing and an oh so painful 2009, is there any specific info that suggests a change is imminent? There were rumors of Ben taking the Depaul job. Whats the real scoop?
