Bruins Fall to Ducks At McArthur Court

Playing in its last game at McArthur Court, the Bruins fall to the Oregon Ducks 71-66 in overtime.
UCLA (9-11, 4-4) was down 55-52 with 11 seconds left in regulation when senior Michael Roll hit a long three-point shot to send the game into overtime.
However, Oregon's Matt Humphrey opened the overtime period with two three-pointers to put the Ducks ahead by two possessions, 61-57, a deficit the Bruins could not overcome as the Ducks hit key shots and their free throws in the extra period.
Nikola Dragovic had 10 rebounds and led UCLA in scoring with 19 points but was just 5-13 from beyond the three-point arc. Michael Roll added 16 points and 6 assists.
Freshman Tyler Honeycutt continued to display his all-around game by recording 13 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals in a season high 40 minutes.
Malcolm Lee struggled all evening on offense scoring 2 points on just 1 of 9 shooting, however, he did dish out 6 assists and 6 rebounds.
The Bruins played zone defense all-evening long and limited the Ducks to just 42% shooting, but the Bruins struggled on their end hitting on just 39%.
UCLA took way too many three-point attempts, hoisting up 33 from beyond the arc which accounted for over 50% of their total shot attempts in the game. They finished 10-33 from the arc for 30%.
The Bruins were once again beaten on the boards, 41-37, and gave up way too many second-shot attempts especially in the second half.
Tajuan Porter and Matt Humphrey scored 15 points each for Oregon (11-9-3-5) which snapped a five-game losing streak with the victory over UCLA.
The third-place Bruins now travel to Corvallis to play the Oregon State Beavers on Saturday.

Good effort. My only concerns is having Nelson at the 5???...and as always with UCLA: dribble penetration, creating own shot, and yep! you guessed it! depending way too much on the three.
Good effort? We played only 7 players, while Oregon played 10. And Keefe and Abdul-Hamid played only 30 minutes between them (in a 45 minute game with overtime). It was clear that Howland mis-managed his bench by not giving them enough playing time to keep the starters fresh. This would also pay dividends next year when everyone will be complaining about how Howland didn't give the freshmen any playing time (like this year). It's not like the guys who are playing are tearing it up, or anything.
A disagree. Poor effort in the second half. Everyone was too hesitant and no one seemed like they wanted to take a shot in the last 5 minutes and then overtime too. If Lee could have played to his normal offensive output it may have made the difference. What I do agree is the dribble penetration. Lee has to realize if he doesn't do it, nobody else will. I say Lee made the difference in the loss!
I think Lee is showing that he's not capable of being the goto guy. Even further he doesnt seem to have the mental make up. You listen to him in interviews and he doesn't answer questions like someone who is very together mentally esp if you compare him to Farmar, Collison, Afflalo, or even Jrue Holiday.
I know, I know, you can't tell everything from an interview but if you look at his game its very schizophrenic and I think he's the type of guy who will shoot you to a win or like last night...someone who disappears and makes no difference.
Man... right when I think this team has turned a corner... BHAM! Right back into the wall. 14 point lead and the game blown - OUCH!
Lee is not a pro...(maybe after his senior year)

Moser, Lane, Bobo and Stover would NOT help us no matter when they put a UCLA jersey on. If those guys were good and not labeled "raw," they'd see the court this year. Dump 'em and get 4 new impact bigs COACH! You missed the boat with those 4...no Final Four with those guys on the bench...
Is it me or does Reeve Nelson remind you of a poor man's David Lee?
It's just you. Reeves is only a freshman and look at the impact he is having. I think he will grow into a Glen Davis/Ron Artest hybrid. Glen's heart and girth, Ron's instinct and hands. He just can't stray too far from the key on D.
Blowinga 14 point lead and not handling the minutes. This loss is on Howland and the lack of heart. It's the LA entitlement (they must be watching the Lakers). These guys need to out hustle and out work every opponent every night. The days of giving the Bruins a 10 point advantage because of the four letters on their Jersey are long gone. Nelson's heart and hustle should be the benchmark. He will continue to improve. Honeycutt needs has not shown what he can do. He is like the O'Bannon brothers; give him a system to thrive in and he will do well.
Lane, Jones and Smith better be as good as advertised. They will be young again. Lee can help this team.
Will be the first one to wish Drags well when he finally plays his last game and heads back to Europe to be a bench player there.
Recruit guys who play top level High school ball; Moser, Bobo, Stover and Lane were busts. They will not help next year either.
UCLA can obviously use a great point guard. If the ooaches are not already aware of him, they need to look seriously at Jordan Daniels a junior at Etiwanda High School. He's as good as or better than Darren Collison was when he was a junior at Etiwanda.
