UCLA Adds Center Anthony Stover To 2009 Class
By Bruin Basketball Report
High school center Anthony Stover has verbally committed to Head Coach Ben Howland and the UCLA program.
The lanky 6'10 210 lb senior recently transferred from Renaissance Academy in La Canada to Windward High in Los Angeles.
Stover joins a burgeoning UCLA 2009 recruit class that already includes forwards Brendan Lane, Reeves Nelson, and Tyler Honeycutt.
Talented but still very raw, Stover has a significant high upside. He needs to add weight to his thin frame but he moves extremely well for his size and is a great shot blocker.
As a junior, Stover averaged 10.6 points, 6.8 rebounds, and a whopping 7.4 blocks per game for Renaissance Academy.
Stover's father, Craig, said his son chose UCLA over other schools due to the proximity of the campus to home and potential for playing time. He had also considered Arizona, ASU, USC, Washington, and Connecticut.
The post player is ranked No. 134 in his class by Rivals, however, he is listed considerably higher by Scout at No.70.
Along with his senior classmates, players can not sign binding national letters of intent until later this November.
UCLA is still looking to add another guard to its 2009 recruit class. Moreno Valley's five-star guard Michael Snaer is visiting UCLA this weekend. Stay tuned.

can't wait for b-ball season~!
i love this website~!
Snaer and his family will be out at the Rose Bowl for Saturday's game as guests of UCLA Recruiting. Some of you die hards for basketball forget that going to FOOTBALL games can help our overall recruiting. We want to show this guy what Bruin Nation is all about out there. Feel free to walk by the recruiting tent and show your pride. Do not contact him personally, especially if you are an alumni.
We have a chance to land this guy.
Good addition to the Team and hopefully can be very aggressive on offense even though still raw. It will be great when these UCLA big men develop a consistent offensive game and stay aggressive on both ends of the game.
Snaer def. will be a great addition and imo, with Bruin playing style, he probably can get 20 min or so in his freshman year.
Although if he comes and there will be 4 guards, players like Snaer can fill SF position as well so he def can be getting decent playing time.
Stover you are a smart man and will improve drastically.
Coach BH, can I put on a blindfold and marry your daughter? BBR, hook it up.
Bruin Nation, we r a force to be reckoned with. Coach Wooden is smiling, we have goosebumps from excitement and young players are lining up to play at the best college basketball program (with history) in the U.S.A.
Forget who gets in as president -
GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!
Snaer, the red carpet is rolled out...
u can improve your game, get commercial contacts for when u go pro (agents in LA) and date hot chicks....I know u r a wise kid right?
BBR, when is your birthday?
I would like to throw a party!

Too bad NCAA won't let us put two teams into the tourney. This year's frosh v. next years would be a good matchup.
Too much!
Stover...YEAH! Keeping 'um coming Coach Howland, and I'll keep the brews coming in my toast to you and our Bruins!
Hi gents- Half of my prediction is correct so far. Stover did indeed commit to UCLA. The 2nd part is even more critical- landing Snaer! My next prediction- Snaer commits some time before Friday. I'll even go out on a limb and say that he'll do it before noon on the day he announces!
Prognasticators unite and make Snaer the next Bruin!
dkl1984 - hope you are right, but according to Scout.com, Snaer has a visit scheduled to Kansas on Oct 18th so unlikely a decision would come before then.
oops, meant kdl1984, not dkl1984. Sorry.
Would it be an NCAA violation to give Stover a gift certificate to Morton's steak house and a gym membership, me being an alumni and all? He needs another 40 pounds of muscle.
good one Rob
If Stover can't take it, I will, not that I need the extra pounds or anything! I'm sure that won't be a violation!
This is great. 7 blocks a game. Man.
I would love to see exhibition game between this years freshman and next years at Pauley.
this years freshman and next years at Pauley. Is it good enough to go to Final four?
I got to watch him plays some games this year and his upside is out of this world. He controls the game with his inside defense and nobody likes to go inside with him because he keeps blocking the shots at a very high rate and his offense was improving game to game. To say he is thin, is a under statement but as he grows older his weight with increase as well as his skills both in offense and defense. At times he was blocking the shots and trying to control the ball and get the pass out fast. And at some of the games he looked like he had been watching some of Love's moves and last years games because he was really moving the ball out extremely fast after rebounding. With him in the middle and some of these players played for more than 1 or 2 years we could see 2 or more NCAA Championship banners hanging from either Pauley or the new basketball arena in the coming years.
I had a beer with the guy last night at a party...lol
He hasn't done all that well since moving in my opinion.
