High school center Anthony Stover has verbally committed to Head Coach Ben Howland and the UCLA program. The lanky 6'10 210 lb senior recently transferred from Renaissance Academy in La Canada to Winward High in Los Angeles. Derrick Favors, ranked fourth in the Class of 2009 by Rivals, recently narrowed his list of finalists down from 10 to six. Making the cut, according to Scout.com, were Georgia, Georgia Tech, N.C. State, Florida State, Memphis and Kentucky. That leaves Florida, Kansas, Connecticut and UCLA to exit stage left. Fayetteville Observer 9/29

Xavier Henry, a 6-foot-6 senior guard from Putnam City (Okla.) High, will make his official visit to Memphis this weekend. He will visit KU for the Oct. 17 Late Night in the Phog, then pick between the two schools, his dad, Carl, told Rivals.com. Lawrence Journal World 9/30

Fairfax High's Renardo Sidney will make a recruiting visit to Mississippi State next week and is also planning a trip to Nevada Las Vegas, his father says. Sidney, a 6-foot-10 senior center, also has had conversations with USC and UCLA, but his father said Tuesday that neither is a front-runner. "We don't have a front-runner," he said. Sidney Sr. hinted that he appreciates extra attention. "If you're recruiting a big-time player, you should recruit him like he's a big-time player and call him every day, not just once every two weeks... That's not interest." LA Times 9/30

Michael Snaer, a 6-4 senior shooting guard from Moreno Valley, Calif., who has visited Missouri, Florida State and Marquette, tells Rivals.com he will visit UCLA this weekend and Kansas for the Oct. 17 Late Night in the Phog. KU Sports 10/1

Lance Stephenson, a 6-5, 195-pound senior shooting guard from Lincoln High in Brooklyn, N.Y., will visit KU this month, likely for Late Night, Rivals.com reports. Stephenson also wants to visit Memphis, Southern Cal and UCLA this month. Other schools on his list: Pittsburgh, Indiana, North Carolina, Seton Hall. He will not sign until April. KU Sports 10/3

Brandon Jennings said that three high school players in the class of 2009 — the California big men Renardo Sidney and Jordan Hamilton and Lance Stephenson of Brooklyn — were talented enough to play professionally in Europe. Stephenson’s father, Lance Sr., has expressed interest in making the move. “I would ask them this: What do you want to get out of it?” Jennings said. “If they’re coming over here for the money, don’t do it. If they want to learn and get better, they should think about it. If you have a bad attitude, it’s not going to be good.” NY Times 10/4
