Tyler Honeycutt Commits To UCLA 2009 Frosh Class

By Bruin Basketball Report

Sylmar basketball prep star Tyler Honeycutt announced he has verbally committed to play at UCLA. He is currently ranked in the top thirty of his class by various recruiting services.

The senior wing now joins forwards Reeves Nelson and Brendan Lane in UCLA's 2009 elite recruiting class.

Honeycutt will sign a national letter of intent with UCLA during the early signing period in November.

The 6'8 195 lb Honeycutt increased his stock over the last year while becoming one of the most improved players on the West Coast.

Honeycutt has improved his shooting significantly with the ability to hit consistently out to the three-point arc. Despite his lanky frame, he is active on the boards and has improved on his defense.

"I just think he felt he'd have a good opportunity at UCLA and it's been his dream school since he was a little kid," Honeycutt's mother, Lisa Stazel told the LA Times.

As a junior last season, Honeycutt averaged 16.0 points and 10.0 rebounds.

Honeycutt took his time before making a decision, opting until the start of the school year. He had also considered USC, Texas, and Memphis, but at the end, he decided the proximity of the Westwood campus and the winning tradition at UCLA suited him just fine.

UCLA still has enough scholarships to potentially fill two more spots in the class of 2009. The Bruins would still like to add a guard and possibly another big man to the class. Earlier this week two potential recruits committed to other schools: Abdul Gaddy to Arizona and Avery Bradley to Texas.

Huge commit for the Bruins. Great job CBH and congrats Tyler. Now if we can get Michael Snear and Anthony Stover on board it would be a very good year for the blue and gold.

What a great time to be a Bruin.
Look at the column to the right and I see our team improving in every facet over Coach Ben's initial squad: size, speed, athleticism, and skill. I am confident in Coach Ben's ability to get these guys to play together, ramp up their D, and get after the rest of the Pac-10.
Can't wait for basketball to start already!
Ps. I think our 2008 class is so good they destroy UNC's #1-ranked 2009 class.

Now our current ten commits could form two completed teams. If we have our five 2008 commits to play against our current 2009 and 2010 commits, which team would win?
5 - Morgan vs. Lane
4 - Gordon vs. Nelson
3 - Lee vs. Honeycutt
2 - Holiday vs. Lamb
1 - Anderson vs. Williams

It looks like Gaddy and Bradley were deterred by UCLA's depth in the backcourt. Their loss.
Honeycutt is super smooth. He's lanky, but he'll fill out and be a force. He's got a smooth jumper that he gets off on the way up like Paul Pierce.
Super job by the Bruins coaching staff. I love how they really get after it recruiting. As a fan, the recruiting period gives me all the anticipation of a child on Christmas Eve.

All the accolades in the world to CBH & staff. Unbelievable the way he continues to live up to (exceed?) expectations. It's not possible to guarantee a championship every year, but CBH puts us in the position to be a serious contender every single year it seems - just the way it should be. Could not be happier - now for Snaer!!!

we need a big man and Josh Smith fills that need... Jeremy Tyler is also a possibility... Derrick Favors seems like a long shot... i like DF's work ethic, and i hope we get him.

According to the following site, "http://californiapreps.rivals.com/showmsg.asp?fid=344&tid=115412258&mid=115412258&sid=968&style=2", "6'10 center Anthony Stover, who was offered a scholarship by UCLA over the summer, has left Renaissance Academy of La Canada and is now enrolled and taking classes at Windward of Los Angeles."
BBR, what's the deal with Derrick Favors as UCLA already gave him an offer. Let's make a strong push to recruit Derrick Favors.

Just don't see Favors coming, it looks like he's staying in the southeast.
Stover is definitely a possibility for UCLA. His transfer from Renaissance was reported here weeks ago - not a big deal. His teammate also transfered as well.
