Bruins Drop To No.6 In Latest Polls

After a split in the state of Washington, voters in both the Coaches and AP polls agreed UCLA should be ranked No.6 this week.
The Bruins were ranked No.4/5 last week but were dropped by voters after following an impressive win against Washington State with a disappointing loss to Washington in Seattle.
With Stanford sweeping both Oregon schools, the Cardinal improved to No.7 in both polls - their highest placement this season. The only other Pac-10 school in the rankings is Washington State at No. 20 in the Coaches and No.21 in the AP poll.
The top five team in both national polls are Memphis, Duke, Kansas, Tennessee, and North Carolina, respectively.
One interesting but puzzling note; the Arizona Wildcats received a scattered number of votes in both polls, however, Arizona State, which swept their series with the Wildcats last week, did not receive a single vote.
In the wonderful world of RPI ranking computations, despite splitting their games last week, UCLA's RPI and strength of schedule actually improved this week. The team's RPI ranking improved to No.7 from No.10 and its SOS increased from No.29 to No.22.
The RPI rankings are heavily influenced by road victories, and UCLA's win in Pullman over No.23 RPI-ranked Washington State pushed up the Bruin's RPI ranking this week.

Why is nobody making a bigger deal about the refs and questionable calls (or lack thereof) made in the UDub game? I am not saying UCLA would have won, bad calls where made on both sides, but common - Washington could (and should) have been given at least 2 or 3 technicals in the game. The hack on Love's head, the tackle of Love, and the ball to Aboya's face! I understand the Pac-10 reviewed the ball to the face play and said it was "inconclusive". WHAT???? Have you seen this? NO WAY IS THAT INCONCLUSIVE!

Agree with you Larry, and actually... those "uncalled" technicals could have been the difference in the game. When the last one occurred, UCLA was only down by 5. Two converted free-throws with possession granted due to the technical, then a three = tie game!
Also, don't forget about the technical that WAS called on Collision. Not really sure what he did. Replays show NOTHING and Collision said that he didn't say anything - ssssoooo??????

Collison got a T for trash talking basically. I agree that there should have been a T on the throw to Aobya's face for unsportsmanlike conduct even though what he did was technically legal rule wise.
In either case, the Bruins played horrible and deserve the lost. We were lucky Dub's free throws were so bad or it would have been easily a 14 point loss or so.
Collison did get a T for trash talking, but the UW player should have gotten a T initially for shoving Josh out of bounds... From what Collison said, he was just sticking up for his teammate. Regardless, I don't understand why all the players were so emotionally charged that game. UW has always plays dirty, but if we stick to the game plan and play lock down defense, then we should win. Collison's T was just another indications that the Bruins did not come poised and ready to play for whatever reason. Hopefully we learn from it, and beat them in the pac-10 tournament if the chance comes!
The throw to Aobya's face is BUSH-LEAGUE and beyond unsportsmanlike conduct. In today's 1/12/08 L.A. times article quotes pac-10 officials which blame Aboya for standing too close or going into the ball. The Washington player threw intentionally with malice and disregard only to gain an advantage. That play requires more than just an apology and I expected more from Lorenzo Romar and our UCLA players to defend Aboya. I hope our players get a CLUE and gain a CHIP on their shoulders both when we play Washington again and against usc...It was a disgusting play.
I may be somewhat older than some here, but throwing a ball as hard as you can into a persons face had a name when I was a kid...it was called dodgeball. The Bruins were hungover after having a ton of fun on a Saturday night on the road. Washington came to kick some a**. You live and learn. Look for the Bruins to come out super-focused against USC.
We'd better beat the Condoms or that would almost ruin the season for me...losing to SUC twice in one year! Even a National Title would be tainted with two losses to the University of Spoiled Children!
Please Bruins, put on your game face and take it to them!
