Bruins Receive Verbal Commit From HS Sophomore

Kendall Williams, a 6'2 165 lb point-guard from Los Osos High School in Rancho Cucamonga, announced today he has verbally committed to play at UCLA in 2010.
Aside from UCLA, other major powers including Florida, Arizona, and Duke, showed high interest in him.
Williams is a bright and unselfish player. He is a good athlete who can find teammates anywhere on the floor and has an excellent feel for the game.
As a freshman at Los Osos High School, Williams averaged 8.2 points on 46% shooting, 1.8 assists, and 1.7 steals a game for the Grizzlies. He has an excellent shooting stroke and good range to the three-point line as evidenced by his lights-out shooting over the summer.
Williams joins a growing list of elite point-guards who have entered the UCLA basketball program since Coach Ben Howland arrived in Westwood, which includes current-NBA player Jordan Farmar, future-NBA player Darren Collison, and three incoming future stars next season in Jrue Holiday, Jerime Anderson, and Malcolm Lee.
Still only a tenth-grader, Williams has some physical and mental development left and it will be interesting to follow his progress before he joins the Bruins in 2010.

Great news. The Bruins will be a team to reckon with for quite awhile. Thank you Ben Howland.
This indeed is good news, however, we really need to get the bigs coming here. Any word on 2009 bigs? Seems like we are losing local bigs and not able to recruit nationally like one would hope.
Hopefully, Jeremy Tyler follows him to Westwood.
Good question, we have A LOT of point guards. Where are centers and forwards?

Anyone familiar with Pauley know which pair of these tickets are better... i.e. toward the sideline?

Those seats are in the corner and not the sidelines. I'd get the lower row seats. IMO its just good to be at Pauley for a game.

Really? The only 2009 recruit high on their list that they've lost on thus far is Hollis Thompson, a wing.
Its still way too early in the recruiting process for the 2009 class to be concerned yet. Kendall William's 2010 commit is more an anomaly than typical.

Howland is also very capable of developing bigs that have flown under the radar of other programs. But why should Howland and staff have to resort to that when their program is one of the best in the country?
UCLA's grind it out style is considered unattractive by a lot of these idiots that come to college to pad their stats. Howland is limited to big men that value defense and physical play.
When I was at UCLA Elite camp in July 07, taking photos and checking out the best players, I couldn't take my eyes off number 35, a bigger pg who was so fast, could go to the basket every time he didn't make a great pass...after watching him for the 3 days, I was told he was a 2010 player...wow! He had a smile all 3 days, and now I know why...he's going to be great at UCLA!!!!
Kendall is a great athlete for the Bruins.. but im concerned thaat UCLA is only stacking up on gaurds and no bigs. He was excellent when i saw him at the 11th IEBP showcase when he quickly came in and had an impact right from the get go! But why dont the forwards get any love? There are those athletic no-names like Dominique Carr, and who is this kid Laron Meriner? He came out of no where hittin two 3 pointers in the second half to help the white team win. My point is that we need to watch the bigs a little more.
I go to the Los Osos games and I am not impressed with this guy. As a sophomore he should have been a standout and he was unremarkable in every game. His fundamentals are poor and his shooting was lousy. In a baseline league game last year another sophomore who was an opponent stole the show, taking it to the hoop on everyone, shutting Kendall down and looking like a real player. I also compare him to my brother who was a McDonalds all-star, captain of a top 25 college team and drafted by the pros. As a sophomore he was a standout. As a junior he carried his team. Unfortunately, Kendall doesn't come close. I'm surprised UCLA wants him. I think he needs a lot of work just to play at a small school. I wouldn't bag on the guy, but his team is 8-7, he doesn't play that well, but he walks around with an attitude like he is already starting at UCLA! Get some humility and learn to play! I'm tired of the other teams fans yelling "over rated" every game. :(
