Aboya's Eye Injury Confirmed
By Bruin Basketball Report
The UCLA Athletic department confirmed tonight that Alfred Aboya has a fracture of the orbital floor of his right eye. He is expected to undergo further evaluation early next week.
Alfred Aboya took an elbow to the right eye in Friday night's 81-47 victory over Yale. Aboya was experiencing blurred vision and immediately walked off the court and into an evaluation room. UCLA team doctors decided to send him to the UCLA Medical Center for further evaluation.
Its unknown at this point how long Aboya will be out of action. The Bruin's next game is this coming Wednesday, November 28th against George Washington at Pauley Pavilion and it would seem doubtful he would play in the game. The following game would be against Texas on December 2nd.
When Aboya does return to action, he will likely play with a protective face mask for a prolonged period of time to prevent further injury.
UCLA is already without three scholarship players James Keefe, Michael Roll, and Darren Collison. Keefe is scheduled to return in mid-December while Roll may return in the next few weeks as well. Collison may come back as soon as the George Washington game but may return as late as the Texas game

He's tough. He'll be back soon. It will be nice to see him with a mask on, hahaha.
BBR, what is the average games missed for an injury like this??
Is this just bad luck for UCLA for the past couple years? Why does our team seem to keep having big and numerous injuries? I can't recall another team that has had so many.
I assume it depends on the severity of the injury. According to Coach Howland he suspects Aboya may be out 4-6 weeks.
This leaves the team with just 7 scholarship players, assuming Darren Collison does not play, against George Washington on Wednesday night.

Confirmed BBR, the severity of the displacia of the orbital bone will determine the length of Alfreds recovery.
Wow! My heart stopped when Love limped off the floor. Glad he ran back in w/ 3:45 left. What's his status?? Did he "tweak" it....it sure didn't appear to b a sprain or twist...
7 guys huh? I hope they are well-conditioned...thank goodness we have some home games...We will be fine getting DC back...as we head into some games that are more competitive...
Let the Dynasty continue to roll....
BF, no news on Love's ankle but we'll probably hear an update on both Love and Aboya over the next day or two. Although the way he came back into Pauley at the end of the game and listening to his own post game comments, Kevin is probably good for Wednesday's game.

I hope Howland is lightening up on the boys during practice. I don't want our intensity to cause further injury to eachother. Love is getting pounded every contest and with his style of play, it will continue to happen each game. He's one, tough kid!
Does anyone have more specific information on Roll & Keefe returning to the line up (more than just sometime next month)?
Howland has stated Keefe is ahead of schedule and may return as early as 12/15 against idaho State, as for Roll, he isn't expected to return any sooner than the game against Texas although it may be later,

So... what's the latest??? We are well into Monday with no updates on Love or Aboya yet.
I'm concerned about all the injury issues. I dunno what is going on this year, but we have already had twice the amount of injuries we had all of last season.
I hope they can all come back soon. Darren is probably ready but Howland is being cautious with him.
Thanks BBR for always keeping us up on the latest Bruin info!
