Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to Keynote UCLA Graduation

Bruin basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar will keynote UCLA's College of
Letters and Science commencement ceremony on June 15. He is scheduled to deliver his remarks at 5 p.m. in Pauley
Pavilion.
Abdul-Jabbar received a UCLA bachelor's degree in history in 1969 after
leading his team to three consecutive NCAA championships from
1967 to 1969. He scored 2325 points and grabbed 1367 rebounds in his career at UCLA, both ranking second on the all-time Bruin list.
He won NBA championships with the Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Lakers, and is the leading scorer in the history of the NBA.
Abdul-Jabbar is also the author of six books, including his most recent best-seller titled, On the Shoulders of Giants: My Journey Through the Harlem Renaissance.

Oh wait, it is Kareem.
Maybe I'm still bitter from age 7. Kareem and his family rented the house in Brentwood behind me. One day, I saw a tall man, standing up on the other side of the fence from my backyard. He obviously towered above the fence. I crawled up and almost over the fence and I saw him reading a book on a hammock. I asked for his autograph and he said no.
Props to your basketball skills but that's it.
Unless you're 7'2 tall and gawked at every moment you're in public, perhaps it was difficult for you, especially as a 7 yo back then, to understand what Kareem went through and deals with presently. Though, as an adult, I would hope you could better understand.

As a side note ...
I was at the Hullabaloo concert last week and Kareem was there. He also had autographed and donated a very cool posed picture of him on drums and Muhammad Ali on guitar ... pretty fun but super unique.
