The only numbers that I personally don't think is so great are the 3 pt plays attempted. Although we have 3 pt shooters, we're not a 3 pt shooting team ala WVA (last year). I think we should have less plays ran compared to our opponents.
Not surprised about the toughness of LoMata and Alfred in taking charges and diving for balls - those guys are tough - but one guy I'm really impressed with is Russell Westbrook!
If you were to calculate those numbers to charges per 40 minutes played --- he'd be way up there and he is a perimeter defender!!! An under-rated defender is more like it!
JRBruin2001, I'm pretty sure we have attempted more than 39 3-pointers. The stat is referring to 3pt-plays attepted, as in "and 1" plays...shot plus the foul. not 3 ptrs. YOR bad.
JrBruin It's not 3 point shots, but a made basket with a foul for a chance at a 3 point play
I think the 3PT plays attempted is a very telling stat....
UCLA is a perimeter offensive team and subsequently take a lot of outside shots. If they had a better inside game and shot more in the paint, they'd be getting more traditional 3-PT play opportunties.
Thank goodness we have Josh Shipp who penetrates and knows how to take the body on his drives, otherwise we don't have much of an inside game.
This is why Kevin Love is going to be a key piece to the UCLA arsenal next season.
Yes, the 3-PT Plays Attempted statistic is via the "traditional" route: shot attempt made and fouled (and 1.

There's a poll that a newspaper in Raleigh, N.C, has posted asking who is the best NCAA men's basketball coach ever. John Wooden is one of the choices, of course, but he's losing to Dean Smith. If you want to help Coach Wooden win, go to

Glad to have you as a reader.
BBR was started in 2005 with a simple mission:
Support the UCLA basketball program by providing quality and informative articles to readers.
Its our preference to keep the focus of the site on the UCLA basketball program rather than on us. Considering our growing loyal readership its been a good formula.
Thanks for posting and spreading the word.

I'm somewhat suprised Ryan Wright shows up on that list for charges taken. Wright gets BARELY any tick. 3 charges in the very limited minutes he actually plans? That's hustle.
