Camps will survive when shoe drops : Vaccaro has long been the most visible personality on the summer basketball circuit, consistently outrecruiting and outfoxing his shoe company rivals to attract the best prep prospects to his camps. This summer he lured 6-10 Kevin Love of Lake Oswego, Ore., and guard O.J. Mayo of Huntington, W. Va. - the two most highly publicized senior prospects in the country - to ABCD and had seven of the Top 12. Those numbers figure to escalate if he maintains his new found monopoly. UCLA coach Ben Howland paid in-home visits to two highly ranked student athletes last week, Kevin Love and Kyle Singler. Love committed to UCLA over this past summer and SF Kyle Singler is still undecided. In addition to his meeting with Howland, Singler had an in-home visit with both Mike Kryzewski and his top assistant Steve Wojciechowski last week. Singler then made a trip to Duke this past weekend for a visit. Singler is believed to be one of Duke’s top targets for the 2007 class. The 6’8” sharp-shooter also has recently taken a visit to Kansas. NBA Draft.net 9/26

It's not every day that college basketball coaches Roy Williams of North Carolina, Lute Olson of Arizona, Mark Few of Gonzaga and Mark Gottfried of Alabama are in the San Fernando Valley, looking at a prospect for their respective programs. However, all four prominent Division I figures made appearances in the area during the past week, taking in practice at Taft High of Woodland Hills and paying extra close attention to junior Larry Drew, who's rapidly becoming one of the more sought-after point guards in the nation. Kyle Singler officially visited Duke over the weekend, and, despite Internet speculation and rumor, he insists he's no closer to picking a college than he was last week. "I'm still looking at four schools," Singler said Tuesday. "That's just the way I want to go. I don't want to persuade myself that a certain college is best for me until I check out all my options. I'm going to take my visits and then make a decision." Singler, one of the top remaining uncommitted basketball prospects in the class of 2007, is deciding from among Duke, Arizona, UCLA and Kansas. Jeff Withey, a 7-foot junior from Horizon High in San Diego, told Rivals.com he’d trimmed his list of schools to KU, Louisville, Georgetown, Texas, Syracuse and Washington. He will visit KU unofficially for the Oct. 13 Late Night in the Phog. “Kansas and Louisville are my leaders,” he told Rivals.com. Lawrence Journal-World 9/28

A sixth opening would have had to come from another early departure, a transfer or a roster move. The Wildcats still are pursuing Oregon forward Kyle Singler, who is expected to choose Duke, Kansas or Arizona. UA coaches visited him at his home in Medford, Ore., on Monday. Elston Turner Jr., a 6-foot-5, 185-pound swingman from Roseville, Calif., entering his junior year of high school, has committed to Washington."I went over all of it and decided that Washington was the school I wanted to go to," Turner said. Seattle Times 9/29

The LSU men’s basketball program collected another basketball commitment Thursday when 6-foot-10, 210-pound forward Garrett Green said he’ll play for the Tigers. The best may be yet to come as Simeon High School point guard Derrick Rose, the 6th best player in the class of 2007 according to scout.com, has announced that DePaul is among the finalists for his commitment.
