St. Louis High School Guard Chooses To Walk-on at UCLA

MICDS point guard will walk on at UCLA(Mary Institute and Saint Louis Country Day School)
MICDS point guard Mustafa Abdul-Hamid saw what Harvard had to offer when he made an official visit, but on a recent trip to UCLA he felt more at home and found what he was looking for.
So Abdul-Hamid committed to walk on to the UCLA basketball team rather than head to Harvard or any of the other schools recruiting him.
The decision "really was tough, with the academic aspect that Harvard offers," the 6-foot-2 MICDS senior said, "but when I went down (to UCLA) I really felt at home. I met a lot of great people. I got to speak to coach (John) Wooden. I got to see a game. ... I felt like I was wanted there, more so than at Harvard."
Abdul-Hamid, who averaged 22.8 points a game this season, caught the eye of Bruins coach Ben Howland at a UCLA basketball camp last summer.
"Coach Howland said I was one of the more underrated guards in the country," Abdul-Hamid said.

I would love to see Coach Howland recruit couple of outstanding centers 7" or taller to dominate the middle. The center should be stronger, athletic and top student athletic. Also Coach should at times review some of Coach Wooden's old championship highlights to instill to his bruin squad for next season. Good luck recruiting and best wishes in the National Championship Game for 2007. Ucla will win no. 12 next year.
That Mustafa Abdul-Hamid is amazing he had no one to back him up at his school. Plus his coach was a total hater and was aginst Mustafa 100%. And still Mustafa averaged 22.8 or something around there. Plus I researched his dad and he played D1 ball also at New Mexico State so he is learned from a player and is just the most under rated player in the country in my eyes I think he could be better than Jordan Farmar!

Mustafa was a few years younger than me at MICDS...I was a cheerleader, and I watched him spend many hours in the gym with his dad practicing basketball. He was actually in my little sister's class, and she told me stories about how respectful and dedicated he is as a person. He deserves as much credit as he can get!
